A developer has discovered a hidden feature in the Facebook app for Android. It allows you to create custom avatars to react on the social network.

At Facebook, we must have a lot of oil. Because for the ideas ... A developer, answering the name of Jane Manchun Wong, has just discovered a new hidden function in the code of the application Facebook for Android. It looks a lot like Snapchat's Bitmojis.

Called Facebook Avatars, it allows a user to create and customize a character to his image, which can then be used to comment a message or as stickers in Messenger. The customization seems quite advanced, since it is possible to choose the color of his skin, the color of his hair and his hairstyle and the features of his face.


Facebook has confirmed to TechCrunch to be developing avatars. The goal is to allow users to express themselves more on Facebook, to give substance to their reactions without as much exposure as with a photo. Each avatar should be declined in different stickers for so many emotions: joy, sadness, surprise, boredom, anger, etc.

TechCrunch specifies that for the time Facebook did not specify the procedure for the creation of these avatars. It is unclear whether to create it from a default template or whether the social networking giant will use the power of computer vision and artificial intelligence to make it easier for users. This last solution is not inconceivable since this is how the 3D avatars of Facebook Spaces VR are created.

From the perspective that Stories will soon supplant classic posts, according to Mark Zuckerberg, the ability to quickly communicate a reaction with a personalized avatar seems an essential element. However, there is no release date for this new feature at this time.
