Get ready for an avalanche of new CPU flaws!

Six other hardware vulnerabilities are being analyzed by Intel. Four of them would pose a high security risk. Their publication would be expected by August.

Intel, ARM and others have just unveiled two new flaws that affect a large number of processors, but the risk level remains moderate. In fact, this is probably only the prelude to an avalanche of new material faults, some of which could have a much higher impact. At the beginning of May, the German magazine revealed that Intel was pleading on eight new material faults in addition to the three that we already knew (Meltdown, Specter 1, Specter 2). Two of the new flaws have been unveiled, so there are still six to come. The publication of these flaws would be expected by August.

Alert on cloud services

Obviously, no specific technical information is available to date on these new flaws. But according to that, two would be cataloged with an average security risk and four with a high risk. Among the most critical vulnerabilities, one would easily run malicious code in a virtual machine and, from there, attack the host system. A scenario that could particularly weaken cloud services like Amazon, Google or Cloudflare. For the computer industry, the summer is likely to be particularly hot.

In any case, this new batch confirms what many experts have already predicted: Meltdown and Specter were just the beginning of a long series of revelations. In a way, it's quite logical. For decades, chip manufacturers have not sufficiently considered the potential security issues of their architectures. They must now pay the bribes. And US too.
