Gmail will (almost) write your messages alone

The new Smart Compose feature suggests groups of words early as you write with impressive speed. It will be deployed in the coming weeks in experimental mode.

While we thought all the innovations concerning Gmail already unveiled, Google has released a little extra surprise last night at its conference for developers: Smart Compose. As the name implies, this feature helps you write your mails faster thanks to artificial intelligence. This is an automatic word group suggestion that the system anticipates as you write. For example: if you start by writing "would you be free next Wednesday", smart compose will complete itself "to go drink in glass?" which will appear in draft. Simply press the Tab key to validate the group of words submitted, as can be seen in the gif below.

Saving repetitive phrases to the user

The proposals will be made according to the context, the recipient and your habits. Just like the Smart Reply recently introduced and that submits three choices of short answers made when you receive an email. The idea is not to predict everything for sure and take away all creativity but you save the repetitive phrases and formulas all made of the type "Hello", "How are you?", "Good Weekend" etc.

Smart Compose will be launched in the coming weeks in the new Gmail for the general public and will be available to G Suite customers in the coming months. To access it, you have to activate the parameter "experimental access", as indicated by the official blog of Google.

The demonstration unveiled last night was quite impressive, Gmail's suggestions appearing extremely fast and magically. We can not wait to try.
