Huawei is backing up and preparing its own alternative operating system for Android. Suspected by the US authorities of selling telecom equipment to Iran (under a US embargo), the world's largest telecom equipment maker and third-largest smartphone vendor fears a penalty at ZTE. His Chinese counterpart has just been denied access to US technologies (processors, Android-type software, etc.) for seven years.

For Huawei, which designs its own processors Kirin, it is a little less hardware than software since, in addition to a ban on sales on the territory, the company at the flower could lose the right to use the PlayStore, Gmail and all Google apps. According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP), which has collected corroborating evidence from four sources, Huawei would have started work during the first US survey targeting ZTE in 2012. The company has never launched any product on the market because "the system is not as good as Android, and there is not much third party application," a source told SCMP.

The comments of this source are corroborated by those of Zhao Ming, president of Honor (daughter brand of Huawei), who told an event in Beijing last week that the development of an OS by Huawei is a "necessity" , even if "for the time being (its launch) is not necessary since we work hand in hand with Google and continue to use its Android system", as reported by the SCMP. A position reinforced by an official statement stating that Huawei "has no plans to launch its own operating system in the near future".

Clearly, it's been a while since Huawei developed a submarine mobile operating system to be ready to continue its activities in case of conviction, whether political (protectionism American) or proven (rape embargoes or insertion chips / spyware).
