BLU promises: it will stop transferring personal data to third parties

Blu has agreed to lend itself to a security program to ensure that it no longer allows the leak of personal data of its customers.

After the complaint filed by the US Federal Trade Commission on Monday, April 30, BLU agreed to implement a "comprehensive data security program". The goal: to prevent in the future that private data be used by third-party companies. This measure will be evaluated by a party independent of the company every 2 years ... over a period of 20 years.

Doubtful practices already identified

An agreement that followed a controversy that broke out in November 2016. The Kryptowire security firm revealed at the time that BLU smartphones were transmitting a massive amount of data from their customers to the Chinese supplier AdUps Technologies. The information collected was intended to track user behavior for advertising purposes. And the data was endless: message content, location information, call logs, contact list and list of applications used and installed on the devices.

At the time, BLU had said it was in good standing on data collection, like "all the other smartphone manufacturers in the world." Carmen Gonzales, marketing director of the brand, had wanted reassuringly explaining that BLU "It certainly did not affect the privacy or security of the users." But that had not convinced Amazon, the main distributor of its phones, which had immediately suspended all the company's phone sales.

Recall that in France, Wiko-which also belongs to Tinno, the company that manufactures Blu-smartphones has also been singled out for strange data sent to China.
