Cambridge Analytica closes its doors ... and Emerdata takes over

Overwhelmed by the scandals, the British company Cambridge Analytica ceases its activity and closes all its offices in the world. But key players have already set up a new business ... to take over?

End of game for Cambridge Analytica: mired in scandals, the sulfurous British company puts the key under the door. In a statement posted on its website, Cambridge Analytica LLC explains that it is going to stop all its activities: in addition to the parent company, SCL Election Ltd and SCL Defense Ltd are closing their doors. Not only in the United Kingdom, where the parent company is located, but also in the USA where the two SCL subsidiaries were in charge - we know that SCL Elections worked for the Trump and SCL Defense campaign for the US government.

If the company is in liquidation, the business does not stop as far as Cambridge Analytica and SCL are both under investigation in the United Kingdom (Brexit), the US (Trump campaign), Australia in Israel (fraudulent use of personal data). Cambridge Analytica and its partner SCL are suspected of having siphoned the data of 50 to 87 million Facebook users without their consent and to have used this data to determine profiles in order to spread false information in order to influence the course political campaigns.

Is this the end of the scandals and the wild use of our personal data? Not at all: while justice will come into action (with the time that it will take in different countries), Cambridge Analytica's thinking heads have already moved on to the second chapter.

Same player still plays

After revealing his dubious methods to Channel 4 television newsmen disguised as potential Sri Lankan customers, he may well believe that Cambridge Analytica boss Alexander Nix is completely ruined. Far from it: he became the director of a new company called Emerdata, as the Business Insider reveals. And who is behind this new company? Cambridge Analytica alumni, Trump's relatives, as the article from our colleagues reveals on the basis of the analysis of the register of creation of British companies.

If no detail has filtered as to the exact business of the company, there is no doubt that the team will conduct a work activity on data (the data of Emerdata is not there to look pretty). Maybe a little more discreet ... but not necessarily more ethical.
