Cowboy, the connected power-assisted bike, design and super light
The Belgian start-up Cowboy announces an electric-assisted bike offering around 50 kilometers of autonomy and weighing only 16 kg.
Cowboy, a young Belgian start-up, is marketing an electric-assisted bicycle which, on paper, looks rather interesting for several reasons. The design of the Cowboy (this is also the name of this bike) is one of them. Although it is an electric bike, the battery carefully integrated under the saddle is confused with the lines of this bike.
Classic, it is removable to recharge when it is impossible to store the bike near a socket. Side autonomy, the manufacturer announces about 50 km and a charging time of 2:30. Modest endurance for this light battery (1.7 kg) which, on the other hand, benefits enormously from the weight of this bike since it weighs only 16 kg with the battery.
Another interesting point, always on the side of design, the fact that the lights at the front and back are completely integrated into the frame. Not only does it avoid adding accessories not always very aesthetic, but, above all, it also means that these lights are powered by the bike battery, rather than batteries that will need to be replaced. Better still, the rear light also acts as a brake light when the user presses the brakes.
On the other hand, on the comfort side, the start-up is not in the flourish. The Cowboy does not have any suspension or even mudguards. Good point on the other hand for safety with the presence of disc brakes.
Last design detail, traction is provided by a belt transmission (not chain) connected to the engine integrated to the rear wheel.
A bike connected to your smartphone
The Cowboy does not integrate any counter. The manufacturer makes the choice to connect his bike to your smartphone with Bluetooth. Installed on a support provided for this purpose on the handlebars (no information is given on it), a mobile application can turn on or off the bike (a security against theft), to know the remaining autonomy in the battery, to consult the number of kilometers traveled, the speed or the history of its displacements.
A dashboard in sum that should be enriched with GPS tracking function of the bike thereafter, according to Cowboy. The start-up even indicates that it could, in the future, connect to the bike to perform a remote diagnosis.
The Cowboy is announced at 1790 euros which, if the quality of manufacture is up and given its connected features, seems to be an attractive price. The bike is available for pre-order on the Cowboy site for deliveries starting at the end of May.
