Huawei and Xiaomi strengthen on the European smartphone market

The share of Android smartphones is still increasing globally in the first quarter of 2018. In Europe, we are witnessing the rise of the two Chinese manufacturers.

Competition between Europe's smartphone manufacturers is exacerbated, according to Kantar Worldpanel ComTech's latest figures for the first quarter of 2018. Banned from the United States, Huawei has retreated to Europe with a prestigious conference of international press at the Grand Palais in Paris to present its latest P20. The manufacturer already manages to capture 19% of market share in the five largest countries (Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy and Spain) against 14.4% in the same period in 2017. Huawei is the third seller of smartphones on the European market, just behind Apple and Samsung, still leader. A trio that accounted for 71% of sales in this first quarter.

Xiaomi is not left with 4.4% of PDM, while it is present at the moment in Spain and Poland. A figure that should continue to increase since the brand is about to land in France on May 22 next.

 

IPhone X is a hit in China

Maintaining iOS's pre-square in this context is even more noticeable, even if we note a decline in France where Apple's operating system goes from 22.4% in 2017 to 19.5% this first quarter.
Regarding the brand's new smartphones, the iPhone 8 would have sold better than the X in the United States and the five largest European markets, "which shows that the price difference between the two devices plays an important role in consumer choices, "says Kantar Insight France.
It is the opposite in China where the iPhone X is a real cardboard and became the best-selling model, which allows iOS to exceed 22% of PDM against only 12% last year.

Note finally the slow death of Windows which represents only 0.6% of the market in France.
