Microsoft presents Surface Hub 2, a giant Windows 10 PC on wheels

The supplier presents a new version of its interactive whiteboard, featuring a 50-inch touchscreen in 4K resolution.

The interactive whiteboard segment may be a niche market, but it is obviously interesting enough for Microsoft to launch a Surface Hub version 2, its giant touch screen for meeting and conference rooms. The first version dates from 2015 and has apparently sold to "more than 5000 customers". Half of the 100 largest companies in the world (Fortune 100) would have bought. However, we do not know how much and for what uses. But obviously, there is enough appetite to put the cover back.

In terms of specifications, the Redmond firm has slightly lowered the sails. Exit the models 55 and 84 inches of yesteryear. The new touch screen will only have a diagonal of 50.5 inches, with a 4K resolution. Exit also the integrated video camera. Those who want to make video conferences will need to connect a webcam.

On the other hand, Microsoft worked with Steelcase, an office design specialist, to fine tune the use cases of this giant tablet. It can now be placed on a trestle on wheels, like a flipchart. It can also be hung on the wall. And in this case, you can even put up to four in a row to create a truly impressive display.

Otherwise, Surface Hub 2 obviously benefits from all the advantages of a real Windows 10 PC with touch screen. In particular, it is compatible with the Surface Pen Pen. The device will be available in 2019. Some handpicked customers will be able to test it by the end of the year. The price is not indicated. Currently, the Surface Hub 84 inches is marketed in France to more than 20,000 euros.
