RED Hydrogen One: the first holographic smartphone is finally revealed and seems bluffing

Its dual camera system in front allows its screen to reproduce holographic images. But it will be necessary to put the price to get it.

The first holographic smartphone on the market is out. The American press was able to take over the Hydrogen One, manufactured by the RED brand, specializing in professional cameras. For now, the company has only allowed to show the back of the device, according to her, see the front and the screen otherwise than in reality would not be very flattering.

The slab is indeed supposed to reproduce a holographic image, by nature poorly reproduced on a photo or video. For this, the smartphone incorporates two cameras in front that observes the placement of the face and eyes of the user. Essential data to constitute the holographic illusion.

FaceTime more realistic than ever

Journalists who have been able to use it say they are amazed by the rendering, like that of The Verge. This is for example the case during a FaceTime video conversation with another user equipped with a Hydrogen One. We then see his face reproduced hologram very realistically.

On the back of the device we also see a similar connector that can be found on some Motorola smartphones, allowing to connect "Mods", these additional models dedicated to a specific feature. Here you can add an additional camera for example or connect the Hydrogen One to a RED camera for use as an additional screen.

After several postponements, the Hydrogen One should be available next August. The price will be very exclusive since it will start at $ 1,195 for the aluminum model and up to $ 1,595 for the titanium version.
