Switch Online: Nintendo's service will pay for games, backups and nostalgia online

After a long wait and big expectations, the online service of Nintendo for its Switch has been unveiled. Functioning by subscription, it includes games and online backups, and a little nostalgia.

We were waiting for last September. It will be next September. Nintendo has just given the details of its future paid online service for Switch users.

Proceed to checkout

At the launch of Switch Online, it will cost 3.99 euros per month, 7.99 euros for three months or 19.99 euros for one year. Nintendo will also offer a $ 34.99 family option that will support up to eight accounts.

Game and online backup

Very good, but what does this subscription entitle to? Switch Online will be structured around three main axes. First axis, the online game. To continue enjoying deathmatchs, fights or online races in Splatoon 2, Arms, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or the future Mario Tennis Aces, you will now have to subscribe. Too bad for those who had become accustomed to free. The transition to pay should not change too much their habits, voice chat during the parties will always go through a mobile application.

Second axis, backups in the cloud. You will also need to have a subscription to take advantage of it. In 2018, it seems a little vital, but Big N, which has never shone by the performance of its online services seems to think that such a service is paid.

Make nostalgia pay

Finally, a big piece, the subscription to Switch Online will give access to a whole library of NES titles, adapted to the Switch, with voice chat support and online game. Twenty games should be available at launch, a dozen of which have been confirmed by Nintendo in the United States. We should find: Balloon Fight, Donkey Kong, Dr. Mario, Ice Climber, The Legend of Zelda, Mario Bros., Soccer, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3 and Tennis.

If that makes you think of the Virtual Console of Wii and other "old", nothing says that Nintendo will play this card. In contrast, the Japanese giant has announced that other titles should be added regularly. Only NES games will be concerned at first ... We can always hope that Nintendo will open its service to SNES games, N64, Gamecube and others in the future. The 20 euros per month would then be much more justified, waiting to know what Nintendo special offers will book to its subscribers.
