This new Asus ZenBook Pro 15-inch PC has everything to please the most demanding

The Taiwanese manufacturer announces the arrival of a brand new ZenBook laptop. No question of ultrabook here but a machine of good size, powerful and - as always - design.

ZenBook Pro 15 or UX550G: this is the new powerful and licked laptop from Asus. So, yes, there is "Pro" in the denomination but, do not worry, it should be normally available in all the good creameries on its way out. Even if the manufacturer does not give a date of availability or price for France. It will certainly wait until Computex 2018 (June 5 to 9) to see the ZenBook Pro 15 with our own eyes and learn more about its price and its arrival in France. In the meantime, here is what we already know about this beautiful monster.

A grand ultrafine powered by the Intel Core i9

First item highlighted: the screen of ZenBook Pro 15. Of a diagonal of 15.6 inches and with very thin side edges (7.3 mm), it is tactile and displays a definition Full HD or 4K (3840 by 2160 pixels). Its color is certified to Pantone and, for some versions, 100% Adobe (and 132% sRGB) with a Delta-E announced below the 2.0 bar for increased color rendering fidelity.

Under the keyboard, Core i5, i7 or the all-new Intel Core i9 - the 8950HK - will be at the helm, supported by up to 16 GB of DDR4 memory at 2400 MHz. The graphic part is entrusted to the good care of a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (4 GB of GDDR5) and storage, provided by SSD modules in PCIe 3.0 4x (1 TB maximum announced).
Besides enjoying 4K videos and working in great conditions, Asus says it is also possible to play Ultra High Definition on the machine. Surely. But not the last AAA date: to take advantage of these, it will reduce the definition of the screen to the simple Full HD so that the titles turn without too much trouble ... and have the light hand on the levels of details. It remains to be hoped that Asus has optimized the on-board dual fan cooling system, so that it is as efficient as it is silent and thus prevent the ZenBook Pro 15 from roaring in the event of heavy mobilization of material resources.

Always so beautiful and well finished

Just like the previous generation ZenBook Pro 15, the new version opts for an aluminum housing called unibody (one piece) proposed in midnight blue and rose gold edges, which contrast perfectly with the rest of the device. As on all Zenbooks, the keyboard of this model is backlit and we notice on the visuals that it does not have a numeric keypad.

Question size, Asus evokes a thickness of 1,89 cm for a weight of 2 kilos maximum. Measurements close to those of a 14 inches, so really very reasonable for a machine with such a hardware configuration. On the endurance side, Asus announces 10 hours and the presence of a fast charging technology. And finally to convince, the Asian manufacturer claims to have put the package on the connector.

It consists of two full-size USB 3 jacks, two USB Type-C compatible Thunderbolt 3s and a video output (HDMI). Added to this are a microSD card reader and an audio jack combining microphone input and stereo output.

The datasheet discusses the presence of a Wi-Fi n / ac compatible Gigabit (and Bluetooth 5.0) but, unfortunately, no wired network outlet is in the program. Pity. And as the manufacturer does not specify whether a socket adapter (delivered on some Zenbook) will or not the party, it's a safe bet that fans of the Ethernet connection will have to purchase separately.
