Xbox Adaptive Controller: finally a controller accessible to people with disabilities

Microsoft unveiled the Xbox Adaptive Controller. What make the video game more accessible to people with disabilities.

We were talking about it at the beginning of the week, it's now official. Microsoft launches a brand new controller for Xbox One: the Xbox Adaptive Controller. This one has the particularity to address the players with reduced mobility. To best meet this challenge, Xbox teams worked hand-in-hand with specialty associations, props and people with disabilities.

At first glance, this gamepad looks like no other. Rectangular, it accommodates large modular buttons: It is up to the player to assign them the function of a classic Xbox controller button, thanks to the application Xbox Accessories. The Xbox Adaptive Controller can accommodate two USB ports and 19 3.5mm jack ports on the back of the pad. Enough to load a bunch of gaming accessories. David Combarieu, founder of Handigamer and expert on the accessibility issue explains: "PC accessories become interoperable with Xbox One. Until now, we had to make contactors ourselves or modify conventional controllers. "


The usual wireless features are just as operational and the controller can be plugged in and charged with USB Type-C. The Xbox Adaptive Controller will be on sale for 89.99 euros anyway, on the Microsoft Store later in the year. We'll know a little more in a few weeks on the occasion of E3 Los Angeles.
