In a bad way, Snapchat again changes its interface
Several months after the redesign of its application, Snap finally decides to back down. The old interface will be brought back to life, in order to save the application.
Month after month, the galleys are linked to Snapchat. Copied from all sides by Instagram, the social network has tried at the beginning of the year to reinvent itself through a new interface. Its mission: to separate the content of friends from those of the public accounts, in order to create a social network different from what the competition does. After weeks of controversy and a petition signed by more than a million people, Snapchat was out of its silence, saying no backtracking would see the light of day. However, two months later, the company performs a huge back pedaling.
Conversations on the left, Stories on the right
When we launch Snapchat, we come across the camera. To the left of it, there is a mix of conversations, stories and groups. The section on the right contains only the content "Discover", gathering the content of celebrities or media.
"We realized that by combining Stories and conversations with friends in one place, it was harder to optimize each of the uses. We are currently doing an update to sort this out by sorting the seniority communications and moving the Friends Stories to the right side of the app, "said Evan Spiegel, who had welcomed the new launch design . The creator of the social network nevertheless explains that the Stories of friends and celebrities will remain separated once right in the application.
Disturbing results
In the first quarter of 2018, Snap achieved a turnover of 230.7 million dollars, against 149.6 last year. Problem: The company has lost 385.8 million dollars, and so continues to live in the negative. The group said 191 million users use Snapchat daily, an increase of 15% over last year. At first glance, these figures do not have enough to panic.
Yet, compared to the previous quarter, Snapchat collapsed. The number of registrants is increasing, but the company earns less. At the end of 2017, each user paid 1.53 dollars to the company, against 1.21 dollars this quarter. Turnover also dropped by 19% compared to the previous quarter. Snap says the redesign contributed to the drop in his results.
With its next update, Snapchat hopes to restore the value of its users by pushing them to spend more time in the application. Advertisements impossible to pass could also appear according to some rumors.
It should be noted that the company does not give any details on Spectacles spectacle sales, while the second generation has just been marketed.
